On March 29, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced extending its nationwide COVID-19 eviction moratorium through June 30, 2021. The CDC established a process for tenants to qualify for eviction protection under CDC rules. The moratorium doesn’t affect evictions due to nonpayment for other reasons or contract violations. The CDC put the order into place on September 4, 2020.

Several federal courts have struck down the CDC eviction moratorium; the latest was early this week at the sixth circuit. Tenants, landlords, and REALTORS® need to stay informed about these decisions.

In addition to the court challenges, the National Association of REALTORS® has fought successfully for federal rental assistance—and will continue to advocate to ensure the moratorium doesn’t lead to a spiraling crisis for housing providers and tenants. read more | NAR Federal Eviction Moratorium Resources
